What's covered

Coverages built for riders, not copied from auto

Motorcycle insurance isn't the same as auto. Your personal gear costs more, losses tend to be more severe, and there are specific coverages most agencies forget to offer. Here's what we include:

🛡️
Required

Liability

Covers damage you cause to others (people or vehicles). Nevada requires the same 25/50/20 as auto, though we recommend higher limits due to the typical severity of motorcycle accidents.

🏍️

Collision

Repairs your bike if you collide with another vehicle or object, regardless of fault. Essential if your bike is worth more than $5,000 or you're still paying it off.

🔥

Comprehensive

Protects against theft (common on bikes), vandalism, fire, hail, glass and animal collisions. Motorcycles are more vulnerable to theft than cars — this coverage is almost mandatory.

🪖
Motorcycle-specific

Personal Gear (CPE)

Covers helmet, leather jacket, gloves, boots, intercom systems, GPS and accessories. Typically $1,000-$5,000 of coverage. Quality full gear can exceed $2,000 — without this, you pay.

🛠️
Motorcycle-specific

Custom parts

If you modified your bike (exhaust, wheels, custom paint, seats) standard coverage only pays the value of original parts. Custom Parts and Equipment covers the real value of your modifications.

👥
Motorcycle-specific

Passenger Liability

Covers your passenger if you have an accident together. Critical if you ride two-up with family. Some carriers include it, others charge separately — we always flag this.

Bike types

We insure all types — each with its own rate

A sport bike pays more than a cruiser for statistical reasons (higher speeds, more claims). We give you typical ranges so you know what to expect:

🛵
Scooter
Vespa, Honda PCX, Yamaha XMax
$15-$25/mo basic
🏍️
Cruiser
Harley, Indian, Honda Shadow
$30-$60/mo basic
🏁
Sport bike
R6, Ninja, Panigale, GSX-R
$80-$200/mo basic
🛣️
Touring
Gold Wing, BMW K1600, Road Glide
$50-$100/mo basic

Specific situations

Things only people who know bikes understand

Three typical rider situations that generic carriers handle poorly or overcharge for:

Seasonal

Winter lay-up

November to March the bike sleeps in the garage. With "lay-up coverage" you keep comprehensive (theft, fire) but drop collision and liability. Save 40-60% during 4-5 months per year.

FAQ

What riders ask us most

If your question isn't here, call us. We speak rider language, not desk jockey jargon from people who never threw a leg over.

Is motorcycle insurance required in Nevada?
Yes. Nevada requires the same legal minimums as auto: 25/50/20 liability. Riding uninsured means $250-$1,000 fine on first offense, registration suspension, and mandatory SR-22 to reinstate. Insurance is required year-round even if you only ride in summer.
How much does motorcycle insurance cost in Reno?
Depends on bike type, your age, experience and chosen coverage. As reference: a standard cruiser (Harley, Indian) for a 35-year-old experienced rider runs $30-$60/month for basic coverage. Sport bikes (R6, Ninja, Panigale) cost more — $80-$200/mo — because they have more claims. Scooters are the cheapest: $15-$25/mo.
Does insurance cover my helmet, jacket and gloves if they're destroyed in an accident?
Not automatically. Standard coverage protects the bike, not your personal gear. To cover helmet, leather jacket, gloves, boots and accessories you need to add Custom Parts and Equipment (CPE) or "Personal Effects Coverage" — a rider that typically covers $1,000-$5,000 in gear. Well worth it if your gear is quality.
Can I "pause" my insurance during winter when the bike is stored?
Not exactly, but there's "lay-up" or "stored" coverage: during cold months you drop coverage to comprehensive only (theft, vandalism, fire in the garage) and remove collision. You save 40-60% during those months. When you ride again in spring, you reactivate full coverage. We handle this twice a year for you if you want.
I have a custom or vintage bike worth more than $30,000 — is it covered?
Yes, but you need a special policy: "Agreed Value Coverage". Standard coverage pays market value at the time of loss (which for a custom bike can be very low). Agreed Value fixes the amount you receive if you lose it — what you and the carrier agree on at signing. Essential for custom builds, classic bikes and restored projects.
Does my coverage protect my passenger (wife, kid) if we have an accident together?
Your Liability coverage protects your passenger if you cause the accident. But only up to the legal limit. For real protection we recommend adding Guest Passenger Liability with a higher limit ($100,000+) — especially if your passenger is family. If another driver causes the accident, their insurance should respond, but if they have none or insufficient, your Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist kicks in.
Do I need the "M endorsement" on my license to insure the bike?
Yes. Nevada requires the M endorsement (class M on your license) to ride any two- or three-wheeled motor vehicle. Without it, carriers reject you or charge much higher rates. If you don't have it yet, we explain how to get it at the Reno DMV — take an MSF safety course that also gives you an insurance discount.
Do you accept ITIN to insure my motorcycle without a Social Security number?
Yes. We work with carriers that accept ITIN or international license for motorcycle policy issuance. The DMV filing is done with your Nevada license (with M endorsement) — no SSN needed. This is one of the spots where we make a difference vs major agencies that reject these profiles.
